Guidelines for Preparation and Submission of Abstracts

Eligibility:

All Tower Health Residents and Fellows are eligible to submit abstracts.

*Faculty mentors are not eligible to be presenting authors

Abstracts that report work that has been accepted for publication as a manuscript prior to the submission deadline of July 15th, 2021, are ineligible for consideration.

Abstracts of posters that have been previously presented at a national meeting/conference within the last 12 months ARE eligible for consideration.

If your abstract has been presented at a national meeting/conference within the last 12 months, you must include a statement indicating such on your abstract submission and your poster, if accepted for Tower Health’s Research Day.

Abstracts may be submitted for projects that are ongoing (preliminary data).

General Guidelines:

All abstracts must be submitted online.

Abstracts should not exceed 350 words, excluding author names and title.

Abstracts are to be written in clear, concise language.

Brand names are to be avoided when referring to medications.

Use numerals to indicate numbers, except when beginning sentences.

Standard abbreviations may be used without definition. Nonstandard abbreviations should be placed in parentheses after the first use of the phrase.

Abstracts should not include references or grant support.

Please provide a brief list of keywords for your abstract (10 maximum).

Please have someone else proofread your abstract prior to submission.

Abstract Text:

Author Name(s):

Author names should be listed by writing the last name first, followed by the initials. The presenting author should be listed first, and the senior author/ mentor should be listed last.

Abstract Title:

The abstract should have a short specific title that clearly describes the submission.

The title should not exceed 250 characters.

Abstract Data:

Please avoid separating your results to create several abstracts from the same project.

The submission of data that is identical or nearly identical data by different individuals will lead to disqualification of the submission.

Abstract Format:

Abstracts in the basic science research and clinical science research categories should contain the following headings:

Introduction, Methods, Results and Conclusion

The objectives and methods should be described clearly. Findings should be reported in enough detail to support the conclusions.

Abstract Withdrawal:

Abstracts may be withdrawn by emailing Alexandra Short (Alexandra.short@towerhealth.org) by July 15th, 2021.

Abstract Acceptance:

Abstracts will be selected based on scientific merit. Most of the accepted submissions will be considered for poster presentations. The authors of the top-ranking submissions will be invited for podium presentations.

By submitting an abstract, the presenting author agrees to the mode of presentation determined by the planning committee (podium or poster).
